Outline of Basic Resume

Outline of basic resume

A good understanding of the different types of outline of basic resume is important in being able to target your job application appropriately. Other than the cover letter, your resume is the first opportunity you have to create a good initial impression with a potential employer. Do not make it your last opportunity.

An outline of basic resume must convey the right message to the right employer for the right job. It has to show your achievements and the value that you can bring to an organization in an easy to understand way. Recruiters will sometimes be dealing with tons of resumes for a certain position and it is important that yours is catchy enough to stand out from the crowd while being formal enough not to come across as overly casual.
You should design your outline of basic resume in such a way that it quickly shows that you have the exact match of skills, knowledge and experience that the recruiter is looking for.

There are three basic types of resume - Chronological, Functional and Combination. Choosing the correct one to use can make the difference between securing that all-important job or not.

Chronological Resume

A chronological resume is the traditional format and as the name indicates, will list information in a specific order-objectives followed by work experience and education. Each section begins with the most recent qualification and experience down to the earliest. Focus will be on where you obtained your skills and how you obtained them.

This style of resume can be powerful where the name of the most recent employer and/or educational establishment is well known. It is also effective if you applying for a job within the same industry and role as your previous positions or where your previous job title would carry significant weight in the eyes of recruiters.

A chronological resume is not as effective where your work history has significant gaps or where you have changed employers on a regular basis. It will also not be a good idea to use one if you do not have any previous experience in the job or industry in which you are applying for the job.

To give you a rough idea of the outline of a chronological resume, below is a brief example. For more details and specific information, please look at the examples we've posted here: http://www.resume-ideas.com/resume_free_examples.html

Functional Resume

Functional resumes, on the other, hand focus on your professional skills rather than merely your educational achievements and work experience. This is achieved by highlighting your strengths. The dates are not given as much emphasis as the skills you have and in fact, you can have certain sections of the resume not having any dates at all. This style of resume will be effective when you probably lack any formal work experience or where your greatest strengths lie in your learned and innate skills. This format may not be so effective when it is unclear what your accomplishments and capabilities are.
